6. The traffic
When you buy hosting, you can buy it with payment for each gigabyte of the traffic or payment for the channel. Let’s consider these two ways separately.
Payment each gigabyte- mostly often met variant. It means the total quantity of the traffic generated by your resources.
For example, suppose, your page is called mypage.html and its size is 25kb, on this page you have 5 graphic objects in the size of 25kb everyone? Then totally your page will “weigh” 150kb, correctly? If 100.000 persons come to you within a month your resource will consume 150kb*100.000/1024/1024=14.3G of the traffic. And it is not important if these 100.000 persons come for one minute or this quantity will come within a month. You pay only for each gigabyte. All is simple enough.
Now we will consider payment for the channel.
Payment for the channel is measured in megabits per second (Mbps) and it means how much information passes (or can pass) on “pipe” during any set time. It is usually used for the big clients. Therefore to pump over the big volume of the information, you need a thicker pipe. It is possible to compare payment for the channel to a usual water pipe.
How it is possible to count the payment for the channel.
There are several variants for that.
The first, which comes to mind – it is the payment of all channel. And it is logical. You buy, for example, 1 mbs and you are constantly strictly within the limits of this channel.
Let’s assume you have bought paid advertizing and you have the big stream of people.
In your case at site weight of 150kb ,1 person can come to you per second.
In a month it about 2,2 million visitors. All it taking into account if they slowly one after another come to you. If during certain time of days frequency of inquiries to your server increases, there is an unpleasant moment. If 3 persons in one second address to the server that most likely anybody will receive nothing. Or will receive a site very slowly (provided that in turn there will not be other 3 persons in a second and so on)
These are the basic minus of payment for the fixed channel in all that.
Unique plus to see, is probably, that having spent the certain sum for the fixed channel, you can sleep easily, knowing that it will not be necessary to pay extra for nothing, and in case of traffic jumps (caused both by inflow of servers and the side reasons) you are protected from surcharges for the over-expenditure. At the same time for business projects the given variant isn’t so good, as has restrictions in number of simultaneously loaded pages.
Thus, buying the channel, you have no possibility, as a matter of fact, to supervise the traffic. It means that in a case if bigger quantity of visitors come to you, than your channel can serve, you will never know about that , or may be one of your visitors will write you the letter with the complaint about slow work. That is in this case you see only, what the width of the channel allows to see, and no more.
