The Switch From Hostgator To InMotion
Recently, I was interested in switching over from Hostgator to InMotion because there VPS (virtual private server) packages is a bit cheaper than Hostgator. But, I really wasn’t sure I wanted to abaandon Hostgator because they have been so good to me for over 5 years. Hostgator’s support is excellent and has always been a good company to do business with. However, I decided to investigate on InMotion to see if I might want to give them a try, and also save a little money.
So upon my investigation I found that InMotion is really a pretty good company and I immediately contacted them through their live chat. Sure I have used Hostgators live chat several times before and they helped out a lot. My expectations for InMotion were set to be pretty high since I have been going with Hostgator for a number of years.
So as mentioned above.
I did contact InMotion, and I was really expecting a lot out of them. I basically told them that I was considering switching over to them because I was being limited on my processes from Hostgator, because I did have a shared package, which limits you to 25 processes at a time. I do run a handful of sites and they are integrated with all kinds of PHP script, so you need to have an unlimited amount of processes.
Now it should be noted that one disadvantage to Hostgator is that with their shared hosting you are limited to a number of things. Processes being one of them. I had talked to a number of hosting services that I was considering before InMotion. One web hosting company I talked to was 1and1 hosting. Get this, I talk to them on the phone and the customer service agent on the other end had no clue what a process was?
Aside from that when I talked to InMotion’s customer service staff I quickly realized that they they actually knew what they were talking about. (Just like Hostgator). In fact, when I was done talking to the agent he gave me his toll free number, and told me to call him and he would help get my service switched over for me. This really put my mind at ease because I was stressing the move.
Now, I know a lot of people out there may not realize the importance of having a good customer service support staff, when it comes to hosting. Imagine this, if your site is down or there is a problem where your site is hacked or something you are going to need to talk to someone that can help you.
All to often I find that people make decision on hosting based on price. Price is important, don’t get me wrong, but they need to be dependable, and have great customer service too.
So when switching over from Hostgator shared hosting to InMotion’s VPS plan I really did have a good experience. I did expect a lot since I had worked with Hostgator for about 5 years. InMotion certainly did exceed my exceptions and I consider them to be of the same standards as Hostgator.
