Google Tips
One of the most important aspects of internet marketing is gaining prestige within Google and other major search engines. The search engines that need to be focused on by webmasters and bloggers are first and most importantly Google, but you should also be checking rank and optimizing your website for yahoo and bing. These three carry around 90% of the world wide search load which is why it is a good idea to pay attention to where your websites are showing up. Before we get into why Google should be the major focus on for webmasters let us get into how much traffic each search engine receives. First is Google which Search Engine Watch reports say they receive 64% of the total search engine traffic. If you are able to rank first in Google then you will receive the majority of traffic for the term that you are ranking well for. The second is yahoo which carries 16% and bing coming in third with around 10%. The next two are AOL and Ask which together only have around 5% combined. So for this article we are going to focus on the 60%+ giant which has the majority of searchers.
First off when we begin optimizing for Google whether it is for fame or to make money online it is important to realize Google really does not care about your intentions and will use the same algorithm for you as they do with the other websites within your niche. Now they do hold certain websites to a different set of standards such as college websites or government websites, but 99% of all websites will be held to the same set of standards which we as normal webmasters cannot expect exception. Google wants certain things from a website before they will rank it well within the SERPs (search engine result pages). The first thing Google wants is content and this should be the foundation of your website. It is important to have information, pictures, videos, even music on your website. They want content and in the majority of niches they want updated content. This is why you see blogs up top they have a constant stream of updated content which suits Google’s visitors quite well. So if you are running a static website it may be a good idea to upload wordpress and begin writing articles and placing them on a blog within your website.
Once you have the content the next step will be backlinks. There are several ways to go about gaining backlinks. My belief is the best backlinks are built by themselves meaning other webmasters see that you have spent enough time on making your content useful they want to link to your website to help out their visitors. This act of creating content worthy of being linked to by external webmasters is called link baiting. Of course you will need to build some links so you can get found which you can build by submitting your website to social bookmarking websites, general/niche directories, putting links in forum signatures, and placing links in the resource box of article directories. The final aspect which will gain the respect of Google is time. The reason for this is the majority of websites grow old and usually disappear after the first year of creation they flop and die. Webmasters have come up with a term used to describe this time frame where your website is gaining Google’s trust and the term is called the Google sandbox. The best way to gain the trust of Google is to create your website build enough links to get indexed into Google and wait a year. You can build links and create all the content you want, but the fact of the matter is Google expects your website to fail in the first year so if you outlast the year then you will be given the trust making it much easier to rank well within the SERPs for whatever term you would like to rank well for.
