Facebook.com Mobile Ads Launch Date

There has been a rumour for some time that Facebook will launch mobile advertisements through its users feeds and this could now be as soon as March 2012.

Many business models have struggled with mobile phone advertising due to the amount of space available on mobile sites without hijacking what you are trying to look at. This could be an area where Facebook could significantly increase advertising revenues with targeted services aimed towards users profiles and likes. Including ads within users feeds would certainly help justify those recent valuations following the Facebook stock market flotation of $100 Billion. Could Facebook about to be the first business that has really made an impact on mobile advertising?
It could work because:-
a) Services only related to a users interests and likes so they  relevant and useful to the user
b) Ads could be viewed between users feeds so are less likely to be ignored
c) 50% of Facebook Users now access the site through a mobile device
Why it might not work:-
a) Could significantly annoy users enough to stop them using the service
b) Over clutter a very clean and simple service which has always been key to Facebook’s success
c) Mark Zuckerberg has always insisted on user engagement over short term financial gain so this could be a factor in what Facebook stands for.
It will be interesting to see how the ads are formatted once they go live in a few months time to ensure Facebook continues dominating the social networking market in 2012. Facebook has always been careful between keeping Wall Street happy and not being too over commercial so it will be interesting to see how that fine line balances out.
